The strawberries are combined with pastry cream and you can have a delicious dessert in little time. Dessert suitable for a children's party too. But remember: this cake must be in the right season. The best strawberries are found mainly between May and June. To make strawberries and pastry cream you need medium-sized strawberries, very ripe and fragrant, Marsala, pastry cream, lady fingers (savoiardi) , sugar and white wine.

  • 300 g (10 1/2oz) pastry cream
  • Icing sugar
  • Marsala
  • White wine

Straberry and pastry cream dessert recipe

Prepare the pastry cream and strawberries. Prepare the pastry cream following our instructions.
Clean strawberries, wash under running water quickly, pat dry with absorbent kitchen paper and plunge them in white wine for few minutes. Then slice them and put apart.

Prepare your dessert. You can use plum cakes or lady fingers (in Italian savoiardi biscuits). Halve the biscuits lengthways or slice plum cakes crossways. Arrange slices on the bottom of the deep dish in which you want to prepare the cake. Water down 2 tablespoons Marsala (Sicilian fortified wine) and soak the plum cake or lady fingers with it. Cover with pastry cream and prepare another layer with the plum cakes or biscuits. Soak this layer too and cover with the pastry cream. At this point sweeten the strawberries with icing sugar and arrange them on the surface of your dessert according to your fancy.
Chill for at least 1 hour before serving.
This is a do-ahead cake.

  • - If you have no time you can choose ready-to-use pastry cream but your dessert will taste less.
  • - You can use handmade savoiardi following our step-by-step instructions
  • - It isn't possible to calculate nutrition facts as the amount of biscuits can vary a lot. But you have to know 100 g pastry cream contain about 200 kCal :-)
