Manhattan cocktail

Identity Card

Type: short (IBA version)

Alcoholic level: alcoholic

Basic liqueur: Rye Whiskey

Equipment: mixing glass

Glassware: cocktail glass

Garnish: a cocktail cherry

Ingredients:

  • 7/10 Rye Whiskey
  • 3/10 Sweet Red Vermouth
  • A dash of Angostura Bitters

How to make it:

Place some ice cubes in the mixing glass and add all the other ingredients. Mix for 6-8 seconds with the bar spoon and pour into the chilled glass. Decorate with a cocktail cherry. The cocktail is ready.

Variations and note:

At the beginning this cocktail was made with Canadian Club Whisky; then some people substituted this whisky with American Whiskey (Rye or Bourbon). You can serve it as a pre dinner. The cocktail was created by a bartender who worked at the Manhattan Club in New York in 1874. Sir Winston Churchill's mother had to give a party and requested a new drink.
