Identity Card

Type: on the rocks (IBA version)

Alcoholic level: alcoholic

Basic liqueur: Bourbon or Rye whiskey

Equipment: directly in the glass

Glassware: Old Fashioned glass

Garnish: 2 cocktail cherries, an orange slice and a lemon rind

Ingredients:

  • 4 cl (40 g) Rye or Bourbon Whiskey
  • 1/4 sugar lump
  • Drops of angostura Bitters
  • A dash of Soda Water

How to make it:

Soak sugar lump with Angostura Bitters and place in the bottom of the glass; add Soda water and mix with the bar spoon to melt sugar. Add 4-5 ice cubes and pour in whiskey. Mix again for few seconds. Decorate with 2 cocktail cherries, an orange slice and a lemon rind. The cocktail is ready.

Variations and note:

If you want, you can use Scotch instead of Whiskey. Many people like to decorate this cocktail with a lemon slice instead of lemon rind. It's an after dinner cocktail. The first registration of this cocktail is in "Old Waldorf-Astoria Bar Book" (1931) and it seems that it was invented by Colonel James E. Pepper.
