- a lot of municipalities near the cities of Bologna, Forlì, Ravenna and Rimini, in other words pre-Apennine hills from Bologna to the Adriatic coast

- ruby red sometimes turning to purple
- Aroma:
- winy, with delicate scent of violets
- Taste:
- bone-dry, harmonious, sometimes tannic, with agreeably bitter-washed finish

- up to four years,

- Novello (11%)
- Riserva:
- Superiore (12% - aging: minimum six months, therefore up to six years); Riserva (11.5% . aging: minimum two years, therefore up to nine years). Both are ideal to accompany red meat and seasoned cheeses

- Serve the wine at: 63 - 64°F (17 - 18°C) in large balloon glasses
