La Colomba Pasquale
Italian Easter bread
Italian Easter bread (Colomba) is the traditional cake for Easter in Italy as panettone is the classical cake for Holiday Season

At the middle of the sixth century a curious risen bread with the shape of a dove was offered to the King of Longobards,
Alboin, who was besieging Pavia city. This was the signal of the too desired peace and this was the beginning of the
Italian Easter bread story.
The first ingredients were very simple: eggs, flour and yeast. Then rich ingredients were added: butter, sugar and candied
oranges. In the last century this cake has reached its international greater fame with an icing made with almond-paste
and hazelnuts. Mouth-watering cake!
